(To Alfred) Dumouchel During a sermon remarks were made by Chaplain, Reverend M. Guibert, Priest in the seminary of St. Sulpice of Notre Dame de Lourdes, Sunday 11th. October, 1986. "The congregation lost in Mr. Dumouchel, one of its oldest and most devout members, after making his
approbation, in the oldest church of the Recollets, they accepted him in the congregation in the first chapel of
Notre Dame de Lourdes, this Chapel was under the Church of St. Jaques and was inaugurated the same day, three years later, after being elected as second assistant, it was Dec. 8th, 1867, he was promoted to dignity of Prefect, two years later he was admitted to take part in the Grand Council. He held charge until departure for St. Benoit in 1888. Mr.
Dumouchel was an excellent Christian, served fourty years President of St. Vincent de Paul, and was Franciscan in the eyes of the world. He did not accomplish much, but the world was nothing to him. He had too big a soul to get attached to worldly things. "Life for god and in God was his constant application, and to keep in his soul, the Divine life; his only recourse was prayers, and the Sacraments; it
was continuous prayer, because he loved to talk frequently
with God, who was living in him by the Grace. Always living in Gods presence, his Communions, naturally, had to be
frequent. Every Communion made him closer to his God and Savior. "The loving Savior has been his force and
consolation during all his life, but much more in the of sorrow. Mr. Dumouchel had lots of sorrow. His illness was
very long (ten long years of suffering); he took all with courage and resignation, instead of complaining, he was thinking of the eternal recompense, which will be given to
him if he will suffer with patience. Everyone who knew him, knew how much he loved the Virgin, as he was always present to the exercise of the congregation. In the last years, it
was impossible for him to be present at the services, but he still recited to himself the prayers of his Parish, and each month he took care to have brought to him the Sentence of a
Saint. The Sentence, he put on top of his desk by his Crucifix side by side, to have both close by all during the month. He tried to be like the Saint, who was proposed to be a model. Pray for the peace of his soul. in order that he can go soon to share the happiness of the elected one in
Heaven." This is a duplicate copy of a letter written to our Grandmother (relative term) in 1896. It came from her 1/2 sister Estelle Dumouchel and was written in French.
Twin to Virginia.
