Ben may have been married the 29th of September, 1924. Ben was a child placed on the Orphan Train from Roman Catholic Orphans' Home of New York City. 1854-1929Special runs hauled 150,000 children from East to work on farms. Well before anything like the modern foster-care system was developed Children were placed on trains bound for the heartland, where they were destined to grow up on farms in the mid-west. Sometimes they became beloved family members, but often they were little more than indentured servants, cheap farm labor.

The children were placed with the Children's Aid Society of New York, from the New York Youth Foundling Hospital, which till today insist that their records have been lost in a fire. This is apparently not true. At least five of the "lost" record kids are expected in Lakewood, CO, this weekend for the first Colorado Orphan Train reunion. He was adopted by George and Agnes Hoffman in Stevens Point WI on 7 July 1891.

He was born Benjamin Aloysius Parsons, name changed at adoption. Its not known if this was his birth name or given by Sisters of Charity at NY orphanage. Adopted; his given name was Ben Parsons.
