Michael Wagner was born on Nov 11, 1834 in Luxenbourg, Germany. He married
Margaret (Magretha) Hittenger. He died on Jan 28, 1893 in City of Los Angeles, CA. He was buried in City of Los Angeles, CA.
He immigrated from Luxembourg, Germany, to Antwerp, Belgium. From there, the family took a ship called "Cate" and sailed to New York arriving July 6, 1847 with his parents and brothers and sisters. Michael was was thirteen years old however, the ships passenger list lists him as 10 years old. It is believed that child fare was half price. They made their way to Ozaukee County, WI. The usual trip at the time was by ferry boat, up the Mississippi from New Orleans. In 1884, he traveled to Pueblo Los Angeles with the intention of transferring his life to the sunny southwest. He purchased two 320 Acre tracts of land about 12 miles south west of Los Angeles. The land is now bounded between Florence Ave, Manchester Blvd.., Vermont Avenue to Western Ave. By 1886, he had disposed of the Wisconsin holdings and brought his family to Southern California. He and his wife Margaret had three sons and two daughter.
Their first home was built on what is now Manchester Blvd, south side, just west of Normandy. By this time he had purchased the land from Manchester and Western Ave. to Imperial and Vermont. A total of over two sections (1300 acres) He died in January 1893 at the homestead house, knowing that his children would witness the complete
fulfillment of his pioneer vision.

Biography
Margaret (Magretha) Hittenger was born on Jul 4, 1831 in Alsace Lorraine. She married
Michael Wagner. She died on Jan 12, 1916 in City of Los Angeles, CA. She was buried in 1916 in Calvary Cemetary, Los Angeles, CA.
Margaret was Grandma Anna Wagner's mother. When her husband died she came to live with John and Anna Wagner. Their house which had already been lifted into the air and a new ground floor was constructed beneath it had so many kids (12) that they built a new grandmothers' apartment in their back yard. Otto and Margaret Wagner's home was directly in front of the small apartment. The address today would be 1742 West Manchester Blvd. She had already died before I was born, so I knew it as a small rental. Interesting fact....It never had a bathroom or running water, so when the outhouses were
outlawed, when the City of Los Angeles encompassed the ranch, the tenants of the building used the Service Station toilets out on the corner. These were owned and operated by Otto and his brother Joe Wagner.
- Joe Wagner, 1993.
